Title:
Career Mapping: Plan Your Post-Military Journey
Description:
Each year thousands of military personnel leave the service of their country’s armed forces. Navigating the transition to the civilian security sector can be intimidating, but help is available! The ASIS International Professional Certification Board recently published several career maps to help translate the knowledge, skills and abilities, and job titles from the military to their civilian equivalents. Use these career maps to see how your military position, rank, training, and education align with different civilian security roles and identify the ASIS certifications that will best demonstrate your mastery of the key skills necessary to stand out for a new position.
Learning Objective #1:
At the end of the session, participants will understand where to find the military-to-civilian career transition resources on the ASIS website. The ASIS website currently includes resources for the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, created by members who successfully transitioned from service.
Learning Objective #2:
At the end of the session, participants will be empowered to optimize their LinkedIn profiles by demilitarizing the language. Participants will also understand how to best translate military roles and accomplishments in a way that accurately portrays their qualifications to recruiters in the civilian security sector.
Learning Objective #3:
At the end of the session, participants will understand how to use resume and application writing tools and terminology to be clearly understood by civilian hiring managers. Participants will be well prepared to confidently submit applications for certifications, jobs, and scholarships that speak clearly to key decision-makers.
