Title: Creating Safer Schools - Proven Mitigation Strategies for Active Violence Events

Description:

Multiple acts of violence have taken place in K-12 schools across the nation and around the world, and they continue to raise the issue of safety and security at educational institutions.  While schools continue to be targeted, forward-thinking school administrators are looking at safeguards that can be taken to protect our children. But what is truly effective?

Utilizing specific case studies, details of truly effective violence mitigation strategies emerge. This session will also include the never-before-seen details of the Covenant School shooting, and the properly implemented mitigation strategies deployed by the faculty and staff during those terrifying 14 minutes prior to law enforcement being able to neutralize the threat.

Learning Objective #1: Achieve a better understanding of how historical acts of violence in our schools should be shaping the way we educate, train, and equip personnel to provide the safest environment possible for our most vulnerable.

Learning Objective #2: Learn how certain plans and strategies have failed, or been successful, in effecting the outcome of active violence events in our schools.

Learning Objective #3: Learn more about effective mitigation techniques prior to an attack, during the attack, and after the attack, as well as effective ways to guide school personnel toward a shift in mindset that still embraces their heart of a teacher.
